The Time-Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenger
This is a very funny, touching, story about a time traveler (Henry) and his wife (Clare), who first met him when she was 6 (that wasn't when he first met her, though). It's not a very sci-fi approach to time-travel, in that it doesn't examine the effects on society, but mostly just on the several main characters. The characters are fabulous, though, and the story is very good, and pleasantly pretzel-like due to the meanderings of Henry through time.
I am of the opinion that just about everyone would like this book, and that it will cause many people will get sucked in deeply, to laugh many times and cry a few. I read it twice within four months, and that's extremely rare. Just ignore the fact that it's an Oprah book and described as a romance or whatever gooeyness they use on the front. It's just so good. Trust me and read this one.
